HIGH MOUNTAIN FLORA

Index card

Introduction

We are at 2,100 m, at the lower limit of the alpine grassland and the upper limit of the subalpine black pine woodland.
The northern slopes are often more forested than the soles. These forests, at lower levels, have been cut to favor the formation of pasture meadows.
Along with the black pine there are shrubs that accompany it. In this case we find the juniper, with sharp leaves and which, at lower levels, is a very large shrub; and the pretty crouton or scallops, a small bush of the heather family (Ericaceae). (foto)
Now in September we have found gentians countryside which were flowering, with 4 petals lilac flowers.
If we turn, looking from where we come we see the valley of Vall-Llobre that goes straight from Setcases. On the slope at our left side, the refuge of the Costabona and the mouth of the Fra Joan mine.
